Mums' Lil Westies of the Ross Family Farm "Every family needs a Westie and a Mums to let you have one."
consider pros and cons of owning a westie!

Westies are attentive dogs:" I am not really a lap dog, but I love to lie around on lookout! Oh sometimes I snooze if things are quite. Willie checking out the "wild"!
Westies love to make up games: "Playing along with the girls, it's a good way to get them to chase me!" They take all of their toys outside. My yard looks like a day care. Someday, I am going to teach them to bring them back in! Ha!
Westies have very Inquisitive natures and love their alphas! (Make sure you are the ALPHA): "Who is that standing behind that window taking my picture? I'll get a little closer..... OOHh, that's my mums! Come on out Mums the weather's fine!" note: There is lots of reading out there about becoming the ALPHA.

"Hmm...so that is what Mums is doing back there! No wonder I don't like it!" My Westies love to watch TV, especially Animal Planet and shows that involve other dogs. I have a TV in my kennel/garage for them to watch and get used to household sounds. My central vac is out there too, so is our cat! You will get a very well socialized dog.
5 CONS Worth Considering About Owning a Westie 1. SOIL THE HOUSE: You must housebreak the Westie early. Teach him where his bathrooming area is. Get him familiar with his spot and use the same word," Pee, Potty, etc" Note:There are many disinfectants that aid in reducing repeats when there are accidents. 2. DRAG ALL AVAILABLE THINGS AROUND THE HOUSE, SCRATCH THE WALLS AND CHEW THE FURNITURE: These are natural instincts, you must teach him otherwise. Keep things away you do not want him to play with, close closet doors, keep trash with tight fitting lid, place his toys in an area where he can find them easily. Plan his day- include rest time, training, walks, and socialization. Keep him from getting bored, that is when he gets into "trouble" . 3. BARK TO TELL YOU WHERE HE IS, when he is lonely, bored, distressed or frightened and sometimes just need to "talk" to strangers or other animals. You will have to work on this inborn trait. (There are lots of aids available, we suggest Pet Trainer*) 4.. CHEW- This is normal teething and investigative behavior in dogs. When you catch him in the act, startle him and give him chew toys with treats inside. You can also coat all "no" items with bitter apple spray. 5. DIG- a normal behavior in the wild, so tame your animal. For centuries, Westies used to dig their way into burrows. Earth calls out to them! Try creating a digging haven for them- maybe a sandbox in which you hide their toys. Interact, not rough house, with him making sure he has something to do- obedience class, grooming, sports, therapy classes maybe, walking is an excellent interactive sport for both of you. Train for AKC competition!! You might have a champ on your block!
