(Westies require a lot of companionship or they bark incessantly! They are precious
companions, but require a companion. Often people buy two for this reason. They do
not do well in a crate all day. They need space, a place to lookout as watchdogs, and a
good amount of exercise to burn up all their energy. A place to dig would be wonderful,
too!)

| I PROMISE TO KEEP MY WESTIE OUT OF A SHELTER,POUND OR RESCUE! By signing this form, I am stating that I am 18 years of age or that I have someone at least 18 years of age purchasing on my behalf. I am financially, emotionally and physically capable of caring for any puppy or adult dog placed in my care. I have read the following and agree to terms. I fully understand that if I am not able to keep the puppy placed in my care that I am to contact Mums@mumslilwesties.com and not place the puppy in rescue, shelter or pound without contacting Mums Lil Westies first. Relinquishing rights of puppy or dog does not establish refund. (YOU WILL RECEIVE A standard Health Agreement that is in the interest of your puppy or dog's well being and is required by airlines to ship puppy.) A $250 NON REFUNDABLE deposit is required with the application and promise. This deposit will be refunded ONLY if in writing your vet determines there is something seriously wrong with the puppy upon vet check within one week of your possession of puppy . Total price of puppy which includes deposit is $500 for male, $600 for female (under 3 months.) The puppy must be paid for in full before it leaves my kennel, which is 2 wks before delivery if I am delivering your puppy to you. Your puppy will have the following: 1st shots, worming, care and nurturing of puppy and mother, good nutrition,vet checks of mother and all things deemed necessary to provide you with a healthy, well socialized dog. plus AKC litter registration and 3 generation pedigree. I am willing to ship your puppy from 8 - 10 wks after birth. Generally airline fee is $200, an additional cost of $150 for my travel, crate, health certificate required by airlines and general welfare of your puppy will be added to airline fee. I am available for delivery to some areas, if my travel plans coinside with delivery date. My delivery is $300 for most locations, or cost of diesel to your location. I welcome pickups at my kennel. Please come prepared with crate for travel. Puppy will come with towel and toy. A kennel fee of $5.00 a day will be charged for any puppy who does not leave my kennel by 10 wks of age, this benefits the new owner, new puppy and me! | The Westie Attitude and How to Handle It! To all people considering a Westie! Please carefully before sending in a deposit and contract! Are You Ready to be Ruled By a Westie!? Do you have time, money and personality to be ruled by a Westie? You might think you are in control, but before you know it, they dominate your life and mind and capture your heart. Westies are strong minded, intelligent, atheletic little dogs who require exercise, praise and personal trainers. Do you like to talk to dogs" This is a basic need of Westies! Is your Westie anxious, chewing incessantly, whining- maybe he just needs some time with you! A small,high bred dog needs a combined total of 4- 6 hours communication with their owner. Are you organized and schedule oriented? This is the key to a happy contented dog, keep a schedule for feeding, taking care of business, sleeping.etc. Do you pay attention to what is "out of place" in your house? Is your Westie barking (for no reason) He is “On duty” to changes in the environment and will let you know even if a door is open or garbage is placed in a different place than usual. Do you like to keep a clean kennel? If your westie has a Dirty Kennel and Pooping in His Pen often.. You have to be “on duty “ ,he can only wait so long! About 30 minutes after feeding, business calls. I recommend not leaving too much food in the pen because this causes stimulation. After a year this problem willl be completely corrected if he has been kept on a schedule. He will start “telling you” what time it is! I feed my puppies twice a day, morning and around mid afternoon. This also takes care of nightime “accidents”. Do you like to "rough house" with puppies?Westies have a basic instinct is to hunt and capture and “win” any game., which involves digging, tug a war, etc. so have plenty of toys and old shoes and socks on hand to keep him busy. Always play with “your losing” in mind. They are not good for children younger than 8 according to AKC/, their sharp nails cause them to hur inadvertently. They are jumpers and difficult to manage as puppy. Any kind of excitement makes them too aggressive. Do you have time for obedience training?They require obedience training- sit, stay and come (optional, good look if your Westie masters “come“, when there are distractions like cats around) are basic commands we all need. Be Gentle, But firm! They are focused, one-owner , and jealous of other dogs and sometime other people who seem a “little too close to their mama!” or daddy! Can you afford "high maintenance"? They are costly - Not to mention, their initial cost, which I agree is high, but I want you to understand you have a valuable commodity- they need Rabies shots- Yearly; Worming, Monthly; (be sure to keep the vet record) , plus Basic supplies- medium size wire crate, water and food bowl, towels ( I keep a supply of old towels on hand- they are easy to wash and keep the crate clean, Food must not include beef or wheat. We do not use costly food, (but you can sure find it), we use Purina Healthy Choice. I use Pet-Tabs a vitamin purchased on line as well.(Jeffer’s Pet) 12. Healthy Treats- They will do anything for a treat! (Granola bars, animal crackers, veggies and of course, liver) If you evidently want your Westie to sleep with you, ( that is why you got one, isn’t it?) you will probably have to wait a few months until you can be certain they are potty trained then you can fully enjoy your well trained Westie.! Groom them like the Cesar’s Can. Any thing worth keeping is costly? What kind of maid service do you provide? Have you noticed you have become your Westie's "Human", he is not your dog! I am serious about this, "Westie's Rule!" These observations not only come from experience, but expert advice from other breeders including the AKC, so all owners will really benefit from reading and understanding the Westie before you take one on as your responsibility.
